Isle of Man Maritime is proud to celebrate the success of Manx fisher Isla Gale, who has officially passed her orals for the Class 2 Fishers qualification, being the first Manx female to do so.
This significant milestone marks a key step in Isla’s maritime career, and Isle of Man Maritime is pleased to have supported her journey through funding assistance.
Reflecting on her achievement, Isla Gale said:
“It’s been a long and challenging but rewarding journey, full of ups and downs. There was a moment where I doubted myself, and many others did too; however, I’m beyond grateful I pushed through and had the amazing support of friends and family. This experience has taught me so much, both personally and academically. I have learnt a lot about myself doing this at a young age. I’m excited for what the future holds and can’t wait to see where this achievement takes me! On to the next chapter.”
The Class 2 Fishers qualification is a crucial certification for those pursuing a career in commercial fishing. It provides the necessary training and knowledge to operate safely and efficiently within the industry, covering aspects such as vessel operations, navigation, safety procedures, and fishing regulations. This certification enables Isla to take on greater responsibilities within the fishing sector and paves the way for future career progression.
Isle of Man Maritime is committed to supporting the next generation of maritime professionals through funding opportunities for training and upskilling. Various funding options are available to Manx residents looking to enhance their maritime careers, ensuring they have access to the necessary qualifications and resources to succeed in the industry.
Lee Clarke, General Manager of Isle of Man Maritime, commented:
