The Flag State Performance Table for 2017/8 has been released this week by the International Chamber of Shipping.
The Isle of Man has been awarded a full set of green marks (positive indicators), making it one of only 18 flag states (out of 119) to achieve this level of quality and compliance.
The Isle of Man is joined in this regard by four other Red Ensign Group registries which highlights the excellent work being done across the group.
The purpose of the ICS report is stated as being two fold:
1) To encourage shipowners and operators to examine whether a flag state has sufficient substance before using it.
2) To encourage shipowners and operators to put pressure on their flag administrations to effect any improvements that might be necessary, especially in relation to safety of life at sea, the protection of the marine environment, and the provision of decent working and living conditions for seafarers.
